Setting up
The Field
Corn is played on a field similar to a football field, with two end zones on opposite ends. Play uses a Nerf football.
Kickoff
The game starts with a kickoff from one team's end zone, and every score is followed by another kickoff from the scoring team's end zone. The receiving team takes over on offense after the return.
Teams
Corn is played with at least three players per team. There are no official positions — any player can run, throw, catch, or defend.
How it's played
Informal Snap
There is no official snap or line of scrimmage marker. Play starts informally once both teams are ready, based on the players' own sense of when the down begins.
Two-Hand Touch
A down ends when a defender touches the ball carrier with two hands. There is no tackling.
Spotting the Ball
After a down ends on a two-hand touch, the ball is placed at the yard line where the touch occurred. The next down begins from that spot.
Three Downs
The offense gets three downs total to advance the ball into the end zone and score. If they fail to score within those three downs, possession turns over to the other team at the spot of the ball.
Turnover on Downs
If the offense does not score by the end of the third down, the ball is turned over to the defense at the exact spot where the last down ended.
Rushing vs Passing Score
If the ball carrier runs the ball into the end zone, it is worth one point. If a teammate throws the ball into the end zone for a completion, it is worth two points.
Winning the Game
The first team to reach 10 points wins, but must win by a margin of at least 2 points. If the score reaches 10-9 or ties near the end, play continues until one team leads by 2.
The prose is the game. Every change here is saved as a new version, and every match ever played pins the exact rules it was played under.
